Hehe sorry the response was a bit too late and obviously it isn't going to be on this weekend, but if you turn up on our Thursday nights best is the 1st and 4th of each month. I'm sure you can still meet plenty of people from SASI and you'll be able to find out directions and contact numbers for the keyholders.

SASI info

Hi Maksutover & All,

Great to hear you are interested in the SASI. The best society in Sydney, if not NSW (I'm biased) (but fair too).

Further to the info Damien has provided, the SASI meets every week at the Green Point Observatory on Thursdays at 8pm. First week of the month is a formal meeting with an invited speaker, so if you are driving make sure you are there early for a parking spot and a good seat.

Re Waterfall observing, it is a good site but not really dark (at least by my standards). The ZLM when moonless is about 5.4-5.5, but it is pretty convenient for those in the Shire. I personally tend not to use it because it is hardly any better than my home at Engadine. There is usually a fair number there if it is clear.

The next two Waterfall nights are 7th and 29th June. I'd suggest you come along to a Thursday meeting to get the low-down on Waterfall before you attend there. Access to the site is for key-holders only, so you will need to be with a member with a key to get in.

We also observe at a much better site near Bargo in the Southern Highlands, which I class as a "nearly dark" site usually with a ZLM of 6.2-6.3. There is ample room, though it does get chilly in winter! The next Bargo night is 31 May 2008.

The SASI home page is here:

Look forward to meeting you there one night!

Best,
