IC 2944 and RCW32 area

Got the Running Chicken nebula IC 2944
5x10mins
Also RCW32 area in Vela, 6x10 mins
Both ISO400, with uv/ir and uhcs filters, Baader MPCC cpma corrector, 6 inch f3.6 SN
lots of dew about.

Just a quick question - Why is it that shots people post of nebulas, they are most of the time red?

They're red because the light you see is coming from singularly ionised Hydrogen (a HII region). Ionised Hydrogen shines in the red region of the spectrum...specifically at 656.3nm, what they call Hydrogen-alpha.

Yes thats right, most of the light is from HA emission. However if I dont use a nebula filter, some blue light gets through making it more pink then red, but with my light polluted location it would not look as contrasty.
