Look Mum/ fellow noobs.. no skill required

..fourth peek thru scope in adult lifetime, ..GSO 8" Dob, Philips 900NC webcam-Mogg adapter, ..hastily fielded 8am 30/3/08... "damn those clouds! I'll look at somethin', if it kills me!!" ("seeing"-2/10 ?..no mirror cooling,nothin' clever at all!)

..standard software supplied with webcam... no anything else..... just click the on-screen "snapshot" 'button'. In fact.. apart from 'eyeball-to-EP', the best bit was just watchin' the lunar surface slide by on the screen of the laptop.. recorded an avi of it.. ..all the while my childhood memories in my ears.. "(squelch)..ahh roger that Houston..(static).. LEM is ready to go (squelch ..SCHICK.. silence.. beep..static) " "telemetry blah blah.."

.....when yer think about it, ..my laptop and webcam, commodity consumer items that they are,.... would rival the technology NASA used in the Apollo program... how priveleged we are!!

Cheers Russ

Gollum.....

Well, there you go! I bet that Gollum fella was shaking his fist at that ol' moon as it slid by - or maybe it was 'cos his lappy crashed just after he was about to download?!?

Congratulations young fella, you and young Screwie (Chris) are heading off into the cosmos.* Now where have I seen that before.....

* complimentary jargon

Cheers, Darryl.

Well done Russ, I remember the excitement of capturing that first image.

Now, instead of using snapshot, you want to record an avi and feed it through registax.

Wonders await!

thanks Mike, I'll certainly look into stacking along the track.. still learning to drive the scope, in these brief moments between the clouds... and hafta adjust to being more organised about it all.. bring on the long winter nights!! ..that Celestial sphere moves along a bit faster than I really expected
