couldnt help but notice the IIS endorsed? huge ad in the sidebar this morning, an ad for a new movie called 'the god who wasnt there' with a sub title 'jesus didnt exist?' i thought it was policy to avoid this subject here
anyway i watched the quicktime trailer linked from it
and was reminded of something i read from an indigenous astro dreamtime story to do with the moon, and was reminded of how the fact that the moon disappears for 3 days every moonth - and magically reappears - ie reborn on third day (new moon), and how from an old thread , this fact is woven into so many ancient stories/gods/religions - as it was surely an amazing thing to an ancient, anyway interesting that the astronomy is so intrigal to so much - cool
Yeah Kearn, paradoxical ain't it!!??
That ad's been kicking around IIS for a wee while now. - think it must rotate with others.
Reminds me of internet 'phenomenon' - "Zeitgeist" in some ways.
Cheers
Doug
it reminded me of the 'zeitgeist' thread straight away Doug those were the days, i hope they dont have the southern cross as seen from bethleham/israel bit in it i'll come down like a ton of bricks

A minor detail dear boy! Facts have no place in religious debate anyway!!

I think you will find that the IIS admin actually don't have a great deal of control over what is shown in the google side bar. At a guess I would say that the Google advertising machine hasen't read the TOS. But then again why should they, they aren't members
Suppose there's some irony in an ad stating that "Jesus didn't exist" sitting alongside locked threads discussing the possibility that Jesus didn't exist!
Doug
There's many ancient religions that have that theme Fringe Dweller. Birth, Death and Reborn again. Modern day Wiccans carry it on with the moon phases. The Maiden, The Mother and The Crone, who dies only to rise again renewed at the next showing of the crescent (New) Moon. Its probably where the beliefs that have reincarnation of the soul as part of the cycle took the inspiration from. Why not, would you expect a child to learn all of human knowledge in a single semester at school.
But, to get back to the original question. There's no doubt Jesus existed, but as said before, was he, who knows
Now, now - are (some of you) non-natives getting restless....?
Now as a non native,
we are always restless hence the path chosen is materialistic rather than spiritual.
Some times i wish I lived a thousand years ago as a member of the Khoi.
Naked in the desert with the unspoilt beauty of heaven and earth as spiritual inspiration and guidance.

Steve
They believed in the J of New test' - a man made story
what's your point?
J existed because a book written 2k ago tells you so!?
D
My point is not only the new testament but also the koran and the torah.
However the discussion is pointless because either side of the debate is flawed.
ie definitive proof is not available.
These are matters of faith I suppose.
Its the same with astronomy.
Books and proofs written by man state lots about the composition of stars planets etc but has anyone been there to get a sample to confirm the hypothesis.
All the knowledge of spectra and lightwaves etc "may" just be wrong although it fills our expectations.
Remember that the act of observing only shows part of the observed and not the whole.
Anyway
nuff said

Hi Darryl
Perhaps it boils down to genetics.
You were born with the collective experiences of your fore fathers.
Look at the brits (my genetic stock).
They had to invent cricket to give them some idea of eternity.
Me, I was born with the collective experience of material seeking so never had the spiritual side to start with.
IMHO its easier to gather material things as a spiritual person, than it is for a material person to gather spirituality.
Perhaps thats the whole problem with western civilization.

Steve
