Arrow Jupiter + Io (+animation) - 3rd March

Hi all

Here's an image + animation of Jupiter + Io, captured on the morning of the 3rd March. Seeing was a solid 6/10 but didn't quite reach 7/10. It took quite a bit of extra processing work to get them acceptable.

Animation (500kb gif)

And my first 2008 Jupiter animation can be seen by clicking on the link. I'm hoping it's the first of many more to come.

Captured with my 12" newt on EQ6, using DMK21AU04 + 5x powermate, at 30fps (1/30s exposure) for 50 seconds each channel. Approx 500 frames were used in each stack.

Thanks for looking.

A very nice Joop and Io Mike, the animation is a bonus.

Looks like you have been getting lots of clear skies at the moment.

Nice shot

I've been enjoying seeing Jupiter out our dining room window each morning lately

Good stuff, Mike.

Plenty of detail there and nice colour.

Interestingly, you've also got a little 'onioning' going on, particularly in your red channel toward the right-hand side. My most recent Jupiter RGB (DMK) showed the same, as you'd recall.

Hi Matt

That right side of the red channel is a processing artifact from my efforts to provide an "aligned limb" as well as an "aligned features" in the centre.

Just need a bit more care in feathering and matching the contrast.
