Hi was keen to test the modded camera on these objects last night and compare to the D70 I have. For some reason every time I go for the Flame and Horsehead I always seem to have a series of misadventures through the night and last night was no exception. Was having troubles again with the camera communication through Images plus, diagnosed the problem after noticing the camera was setting the shutter speed from bulb to 1 sec when going through the preliminary focusing routine, I had to manually set to bulb . Then after that was sorted out while dialing in the polar scope a cloud formation mysteriously appeared from nowhere smack bang at the SCP region Waited awhile finished that and turned the scope to the Orion environs and the cloud followed When the cloud finally disappeared the wind picked up from a pleasant breeze to something that that could knock the scope over Anyway I managed to get only 5x220s frames so the final image is noisy and dodgy but pleased with the amount of detail picked up compared to the other unmodded camera and managing to keep my humour in trying weather anomalies, cats using my observing space as thoroughfare, neighbours who leave the porch lights on and one angry wife telling me off for being out so late

Stats
5x220s@800iso
Tak Sky90/Field Flattener/IDAS filter
Guider Vixen FL-102@ ST-4
EM-200 mount

Cheers
Stuart

That is a nice widefield - some good data.
I agree it is a bit 'noisy' but considering the problems that you faced you have produced a nice image.
Are you planning on getting any more data at a later date?

Thanks Doug and Ian......I probably shouldn't emphasis the hassles I just enjoy being out there and getting a fair pic is a bonus.... I do have some software that can use data from previous sessions so maybe Ian Its ironic that the Flame/Horsehead and M42 are probably the easiest DSO's to find/centre and guide but are so tricky to get a fully satisfying final image

Hi Stuart

An excellent result for such relatively short exposures.

I couldn’t help but chuckle (sympathetically) at the long list of obstacles – some nights just end up like that don’t they? However, they make those (rare) good nights even more special.

Cheers

Dennis

Cheers fellas...Eric its a Hutech 350d or Rebel XTI, think its the same as yours, purchased through OPT

PS.... noticed there is a couple of blue aftifacts in the image, not sure if its actual neb or reflections maybe. I do have a UV/Skylight filter on the scope to protect the objective it might be the cause

Seems to have turned out pretty good Stuart for such short exposures considering all the hiccups. Not too noisy on our PC.
