Exclamation Australian Flag on Webpages

Mike,
After the recent Australia Day, I have noticed that Ice in Space is advertised as an "Australian Amateur Astronomy Site."
i was wondering, if it were possible to add a small image of the Australian Flag (0.885 kB) into the IIS mast head.
I have attached an small Australian Flag image to this site, which could be easily added to show the origin of this site.
I'd be interested others here feel the same way!

Regards,
Andrew

Note: Please feel free to use the attachment on various personal websites if desired. I added to mine, as "Southern Astronomical Delights" at;
http://homepage.mac.com/andjames/index.htm
including the words "PAGES WERE MADE in Sydney, AUSTRALIA"
I have amazingly received several e-mails over the years, many praising not the content but on the little flag itself.

The southern cross in the banner is what sets us apart as an australian site

But I can see your point.. I'll give it some thought.

I've got our flag in the banner of my 'Australian Astronomy' site
http://australian-astronomy.bravehost.com/

As a nation, we aren't flag wavers in general. Some other nations cherish their flag and place it everywhere they can (USA, UK etc).

I am proud of our flag (not entirely happy about the Union Jack in the corner, but that's another story) because it says "Australia".

Uhmm.. the Southern Cross is also visible and very prominent in South Africa, Chile, etc, etc - and New Zealand! It is not unique to us...

Thanks Chris, I'm aware of that.

IceInSpace is not just aimed at Australians, but obviously is our predominant market. We're targetting the southern hemisphere, which is why the southern cross is there.

Could be why New Zealand have it on their flag too

Not being a flag waver myself, I think it would be a very American thing to
do to start plastering it all over the place.

Im extremely pround of my country, it is a beautiful place to live and I am a fifth generation Aussie but I dont give two hoots about our flag, it does not symbolise Australia, it symbolises a governing entity, Australia isnt its government, that changes every 4 years anyway, Australia is its people and its land, put a pic of Uluru or the harbour bridge or any one of a thousand other icons we have but the flag? geez even our national carrier uses a kangaroo in it's trademark.

Nah Mike, I'm with you, I just dont understand how the southern cross got so close to the moon, Mars and Jupiter????

I really like the banner as it is

Putting flags up there sounds really political to me

I could make a lot of suggestions / comments, given the nature of the topic. However, my only comment will be that well known one;

"...if it ain't broke, don't fix it!"

Mike, leave the banner as it is please, this site is about astronomy.

LOL! I would hope so.

JFTR, I'm not a fan of flags either. I think that the banner is just fine as it is and see no reason to change it.

Personally, I'd be happy if the Australian Flag was the Aboriginal Flag.
Or the Union Jack was replaced with a Red Kangaroo.

Interesting concept Chris. Maybe one stuck right in the middle of the Cross would do the job.
Cheers,

There have been a few threads on this site about copying everthing American, then someone suggests we copy the Americans and put flags all over the place
I know that I am Australian, you know you are Australian, that should be good enough.
Except the slowness of iis on my computer I am happy with things as they are
