Obscure faults screw things right up

A while back, I posted a pick NGC1365 that was a nightmare to proccess. It was an LRGB image useing LBVR photometry filters (dont have RGB on this scope). These filters are not ideal for RGB due to a wide overlapping frequency response, so I thought the difficulty in processing was due to these attributes.

After someone else also had difficulty processing pics off the scope, an investigation found the B (blue) and V (visual) filters were reversed uuuuggggggggg, hours of frustration for nothing.

Here is the same pic with B and V in the right spots

http://fredsastro.googlepages.com/NG...full;init:.jpg

No problem processing now, and there I was with a thousand theorys on the problem, goes to show how carefull you have to be with set up, with just about every aspect of an imaging scope, one extra hr checking at the beginning saves 10 hrs of crap later ;-).

Lovely image Fred, you've nailed some great detail in that one and some lovely faint galaxies in the background as well.

Cheers

How frustrating. A few processing picky points I guess but it doesn't matter, the image looks good regardless

I had the same problem with revesred blue and green filters for this shot of NGC 1097 my last LRGB from the end of 2006 before leaving Canberra.

http://www.pbase.com/strongmanmike20...19123/original

I had taken the filers out to clean them and reinserted them with the blue and green swapped. Processing was a nightmare and I couldn't work it out. It wasn't till I was removing the filters recently when I sold my True Tech filterwheel to Dave Higgins that I discovered the error...Ahhhhh now I get it DOH!
