I was just checking if there is anything on TV tonight (Sunday Jan 6) and found a doco on SBS at 8:30 about the theory that life may have been deposited on Earth from falling comets etc. Should be interesting.

The way TV is at the moment, you have to grab every chance you can! Also a doco on 2 about the Andes at 7:30 which some may find of interest.

A very interesting doco on the origins of life coming from comets or meteorites as an alternative theory.

If you find the program awakens more interest in the concept , look at the book co written by the main character N.C.Wickramasinghe who was featured throughout the documentry . The book published in 1981 by Fred Hoyle and N.C.Wickramasinghe is called 'DISEASES FROM SPACE'. Both of these men are notable Astrophysicists , Fred hoyle was the opponent of the Expanding universe theory way back and in jest called it the "Big Bang theory", the name that it carries today! He was also the writer of some notable Sci Fi books way back in the 60's., most of which have alien life as their basic plot.
hope this info provides some reference to the credibility and further pursuit of this subject.I think i remember the red rain phenomena being discussed on this forum once before.

ps i believe panspermia is not a recent theory . i remember some association of it with the famous scientist arrhenius and beyond.

Must admit with the TV lately these account for almost half of my weeks TV viewing (other than episodes of DS9, up to season 7 so not much to go).

Fred Hoyle should have got the Nobel prize for his work in elucidating the nucleosythesis of heavy atoms from lighter ones in stars and supernova.

His so called 'wacky' ideas that went against the establishment of scientifically 'correct' thought precluded him from ever being considered by the unimaginative old establishment whose prostates were bigger than their brains.

Science is not about being smug in your knowledge. It is about coming up with an hypothesis and testing everything by experiment!

Only half way through DS9 so far and just got Galactica 1980, no time for TV, haven't watched it for about 4-5 years.
Having said that, just got the TV card in the puter here in the shed working, so might be able to watch some interesting progs on ABC or SBS while the women watch Neighbours or something.
