Tarantula Neb with 6 inch f3.6 S N

Shot the Tarantula Neb last night with the Schmidt newt.

7x10 mins and 1x20 mins (because the timer didnt go off) so total of 90 mins
ISO400, uhcs filter, Baader MPCC
Hand guided. Processed in Iris and PS. Lots of thermal noise escecially on the 20 minute long sub.

Nicely done Scott, you would need a big calculator to count all those stars, well done.

I seem to have a lot of trouble with this one, and the LMC in general.

Each time i image it and have look at the results i always feel that my image looks very noisy, and cant decide if all the faint stuff in the background is supposed to be there, or its all to much sensor noise.

It might be a wise choice to post a couple of shots and see what you good folk think.

The image consisted of 10 at 2minutes at 400 ISO, and all the above applies to how it was taken.

Leon, with mine I use a function in Iris called dynamic stretching to pull out faint background stuff without washing out the bright areas too much. I find that definately helps. Yours looks well guided and focused, so nothign wrong there.

veryy nice scott and heaps of nebs around tarantula. although i think the image is slightly saturated in colours but stil a nice image.

i liked looking at it... first thing i noticed was SHARP lots of detail the original must show even more ....

Ive had a go at masking to try and bring out brighter detail, not 100% happy with it yet might have another go later.

One final go, this time less saturation and re masking it. Can be tricky with nebulae with high dynamic range, the centre is very bright but faint outer areas. Colour looks a bit more realistic not over saturated.
