International Year of Astronomy

2009 has been officially sanctioned as the International Year of Astronomy!

So get out there and start organising things!

http://www.astronomy2009.org/

Don't wait until 2009 to start thinking about ways to promote it...start now! I am sure your local astronomical society will welcome any suggestions or assistance.

Another "McNaught" like comet or two would certainly get people to sit up and take notice.

Maybe an "ISS International year of Astronomy 2009" T-shirts would be good value, I'd be in for a couple of them but that's up to Mike of course.

Cheers

Good idea Ric!

2009 should be a great year for amateur astronomy in general, and hopefully IIS will continue to play a significant role in promoting astronomy in our region of the world.

Maybe we could make IIS an affiliated thing to do with Astro Clubs, we can have some literature and stickers and order T-shirts through IIS for clubs that wish to have IIS as a sort of support base in a promotional sponsory thingy kind of way?
