Iridium Flare

I forgot that I'd captured this on the 3rd December. It was a -8 Iridium Flare, and it had been raining all day and night - I didn't think I'd have any chance of capturing it.

I was reading in bed, and 10 minutes before the scheduled time I thought I'd have one more look outside to see if it had magically cleared, and to my surprise the sky had cleared.. just enough to capture the flare.

Unfortunately clouds obscured part of the view so it's not quite as bright as it should've been.

But anyway, here it is.

It's a 70sec exposure @ ISO400 on a fixed tripod, at 17mm with the 17-70 Sigma (Canon 350D). The second image is a crop.

Wow. Nice Mike! I've yet to see one of these. How fast do they go/last? Much slower than meteors?
