Clouds Brisbane area

Right own up who got a new scope about the Brisbane area. Because it’s been clouded out for weeks now when I look out. I am starting to get withdrawal symptoms.
Gees I got Bobs knobs last week that could part of it

Ain't it a shocker, Ian.

I can't believe how bad it has been for so long!

I'm new to Brisbane, so I'm still not sure what to expect at any particular time of year.

Having said that...it's been pretty ordinary the entire time I've been here, since late July

What time of year is meant to be best in Brisbane, astronomically speaking?

Sorry guys, but it is going to be a ripper night here in old Ballarat Vic, crystal clear, but there is a bit of jet stream happening.

My new parts have been dribbling in for the past month, with the scope & mount due to ship in a few weeks. This week was the DMK camera and some eyepieces, and most of my mounting accessories shipped yesterday, so I've been doing my part.

I got a peek at Mars the other night through the Megrez, but even that was through high cloud with lightning periodically reflecting off of it from a storm 160km away.

I reckon this is the worst astro season in Brissie in the last 7-10 years.

Ian - you picked a bad time to arrive from bonny Scotland.
Matt - sorry mate, Canberra looks better right now!

You both arrived 1 year too late; or hopefully, 1 year too early?

Cheers

Dennis

actually, Canberra here has been terrible for a couple of months also....even on the occasional clear night that just happens to coincide with a big moon, the skyglow due to humidity is atrocious!

Back to airbrushing.......

Shocking isn't it.
But at least we're getting a bit of rain out of it now.

The super-concentrated, ultra-dense, highly localised “new equipment=bad weather” cell centred on your residence in Newcastle, radiating out into SE Qld, had NOT gone unnoticed Mr. H0ugh!

Cheers

Dennis.

here is a prototype pier mount I'm currently working on,

I'm sure it's clear skies at the top.

Nice one Vash!

You would have to use Carbon Nanotubes for the pier material, to keep the dimensions reasonably compact, otherwise the base would require a very large footprint to carry the weight of a pier that tall built from conventional materials!

Cheers

Ok Ian,

I live in Brisbane and take delivery of a new 12 inch LX200R on Thursday. I was going to keep quiet but you can curse me now over the Christmas period because it will probally stay cloudy for the next few months. On a brighter note they say we will be in for a fine weekend, here's hoping for a first light.

Regards Matt.

Ok Matt your forgiven I am sure the fine images that you will be taking with the new instrument will more than make up for the clouded nights.
