my first mars

I just packed it in after cloud came rolling in so I gave up.

was having a few unusual problems like the planet just disappearing from the screen as if a cloud was moving across yet was still easily visible with the eye, must be enough cloud to block it out.

Anyway the shots,

these where the only 2 good ones out of the 14.

captured with the LPI and envisage
Skywatcher 10" reflector
Eq6 Pro (almost typed HEQ5)
5x Barlow
the really old crappy laptop, which took a few attempts to install the Meade software (could have had an extra 20 minutes out there)

oh yeah, that blue bit I've noticed on a few images posted here, What is it exactly because it's quite noticeable even in live view,

Excellent first images, Vash! Well done.

The blue area is the North Polar Hood - clouds and ice over the north pole.

A couple of great images from the trusty old LPI. Very nice surface details and colouring - well done. Do you stack these on the fly to produce the final image on screen, or are these processed later from individual captures?

AH, I was wondering that, because the last opposition I never saw it, I only managed 1 session of imaging and I was only just learning the lpi back then.

These where stacked of the fly, I don't think the laptop would handle saving a heap of files in a row. I might check the bank see how close the new laptop is.

I did notice that seeing wasn't the best last night but I hope to give it another try some time soon, hopefully, though the weather isn't looking too good.

On a side note my gpusb and guide cables are very close to arriving

I was out there last night and the conditions were, to say the least, average.

Great captures. Syrtis major, Hellas and the NPH very clear.

Was this with the 5x barlow? I would have thought the image would have been a little larger?

yeah, they where with the 5x Barlow I would have though it would be bigger too, but I did try it with out and it wasn't very big at all. My scope is only 1200mm focal length so with the 5x it is only 6000mm F/l.
