Huge Competition - Amazing prizes - Incredible opportunity

Hi

Those of you who followed the great Carbon Fibre tube adventure now have a chance to get personally involved.

The tube originally housed a 10" F5 mirror and I'm putting in a 10" F6 mirror so the tube needs extending. Gary has in his usual efficient way already manufactured an aluminium tube extension and it is winging it way to me as we speak. There is only one problem; it has not yet been painted/anodized. Also I have decided that this scope needs a name (all my scopes have names).

So I'm starting a competition, the prize will be a couple of old(er) Japanese made volcano top Orthoscopic eyepieces. They are not the worlds greatest - but what do you want for free.

The aim of the competition is to come up with the best colour for the extension and name for the telescope combination. Don't forget the tube is C/F is a a beautiful black.

And please, don't suggest Black Beauty, it is a horse!!

Lets see how inventive you folks can be

Cheers and thanks

Lars

First cab of the rank

That was quick Mike,

Are you suggesting that the extension should be black as well?

I'll keep a spreadsheet of responses and post them at some time.

Thanks

Lars

As long as it isn't the red you tossed around as an idea recently, anything goes. I personally would like to see it carbon fibered to match the tube.
Sorry, no name, I haven't with mine and can't think of one for yours.

Paint the whole thing black with yellow stripes around the circumference and call it Hubble Bee.

Hi Lars, you could paint the extension green and call it "Lazer Pointer"

or how about

All black in colour and call it "Darkstar"

Cheers

Keep them coming folks

Keep them coming. Black seems to be the colour of choice here. Maybe Gary is right and cover the extension with C/F?

My original idea was fire engine red and I'd call the scope Jackie (my first love but lets not get into that here)

Given that you are changing the mirror from an F5 to an F6 (five to six) perhaps 'Dawn' would suit? OK, that's not quite right, but it's pretty close for the date you have posed the question.

As far as the colour goes - I don't know, though practical seems to me the way to go. Therefore, black.

If the extension is on the top you could paint it a copper colour and call the scope "Duracell"

otherwise....
paint the extension white - only the great scopes are black and white - though can't think of a name for it other than Ebony & Ivory

Black and Gold is an awesome combination.
You can get it anodised in a Matt Gold and it would not show up any scuffing easily. You should be able to get tiny bottle of touch up paint of the same colour from the anodisers to do any screw heads.
Can't think of any names off hand. I'll get back to you on that.

...or you could be really artistic and paint nebulae, galaxies etc like a certain company has done in the past, maybe even a large moon !!

as for names......

lost in space?

the celestial chapel?

siriusly dogging??

red dwarf (if colours appropriate)

fireball

demon's eye

sky pilot

gimme shelter (as in a dome!)

you can see I got into some of the old stuff, straying from the colours... I really shoulf get back to preparing for students!!!
