1/2" to 1/4" adapter for Manfrotto tripod head

Hi

My 484RC2 ball head has a 1/2" socket for a 1/2" threaded rod. But most adapters on piggyback brackets or camera adapters are the standard 1/4" thread.

Is there such a thing as an adapter that will screw into the 484RC2 as 1/2" and give me a 1/4" thread underneath?

Thanks

Hi Mike

Did you measure the ½ inch threaded socket or is it part of the ball head spec? I ask because as far as I know, most photo tripods are either ¼ inch or 3/8 inch and I have seen several ¼ to 3/8 inch adapters, never a ½ inch adapter.

Cheers

Dennis

Yep, as I said a while back, I think you will find the standard was 1/4x20 on the "smaller" stuff, and 3/8 on the bigger.

See you should always get supportive advice Mike. Just because I drilled a half inch hole I assumed it was a half inch thread size bolt Sorry

Hi Mike

Here is an adapter I picked up for a few bucks some time ago. It is a 3/8 inch girl to a ¼ inch boy thread. I think from your description you require the opposite:

A ¼ inch girl to a 3/8 inch boy thread?

I suspect they should be available too, at good photo outlets?

Cheers

Be careful Mike, I fear Dennis has a warped sense of humour, I can just see you walking into an engineering supply store, full of people of course, and asking for a "girl or boy thread".

That’s exactly how a sales person described the threads at a recent fastener shop I went too, looking for some SS fasteners!

Hey Mike,

Well whadaya know, I’ve been lugging around this part in my junk box for perhaps 20 years now and during a sort out this morning, looking for something else, I found it!

Yes you guessed, it’s a ¼ inch Female to 3/8 inch Male tripod adapter! I had a quick look at the Manfrotto 2006/7 Catalogue and it looks like they still sell these on Page 56, Part Number 088LBP.

Here is a photo of my rather old model, and a screen capture from the Manfrotto catalogue.

Cheers

Dennis

Fantastic, thanks Dennis. I'll have to order one.

For now, I've just drilled a bigger hole in the aluminium bar mounted on top of my ED80 and used some 3/8" threaded rod. But the adapter will always come in handy.
