That's an excellent mosaic, very well done. Sharp across the field and great control of the exposures from terminator to the lit side.
More details! How many frames to the mosaic? Was each frame at prime focus with the DMK + 12" newt?

Oooh, that's nice.
You should turn that one into a poster to hang in the pool room. Seriously.

in reply to your question... i cant remember how many avi;s i shot probably 25 or so... deleted from hard drive now.
Each avi 2000 frames with best 1000 used.... ive now gone to using 3000 and 1000 best since this shot.
I selected the brightest area and set the frame rate gain etc to suit and kept this for the entire sequence, single point stack in registax with exact same settings for each finished frame, the night i shot this i couldnt shoot with powermate as seeing not great so its just in the 12 inch newt alone. i then assembled each separate image on a master black frame 6000x 6000 pixels and merged each one with an 8 pixel soft edge, be careful not to sharpen a lot with wavelets... underdo slightly and then again when picture assembled.
give yourself a good overlap about 25% both tops and sides or else you could end up with an image like this one below.
Cant think of any more relevant points at the moment .....

Very nice again, great work.
How did you get your DMK to focus in the 12" newt without a barlow? I can't get enough in-focus. Do you have a lower profile focuser or did you move the mirror up the tube?

Mr ice..i have sliced off 50mm from the bottom of the tube, before i did that though i used a low profile focuser and i could use the dmk just fine.
its actually a lot of fun putting one of these together , you should have a try then on a rainy night put it together.
Cheers

I actually haven't tried in my 12". When i tried it in my 10" it couldn't reach focus. I'll have to try again

I've done quite a few mosaics, most of them were with the untracked dob and the ToUcam back a couple of years.
The biggest mosaics I've done recently (a year ago!) were with my 10" (on EQ platform) and the DMK (in August and October 2006):
-
Plato and Vallis Alpes Mosaic
-
Straight wall and Surrounds Mosaic
I do need to plan for another large scale one.. they're just so much work!
