Improved Processing

Here's and example of the difference in quality that I get by using VirtualDubMod to transfer, slice, dice and convert my DVD .ifos.
I used to use dvdx to extract and convert the .ifo's then VirtualDub for the rest.

Camera Gstar-ex, 100mm, f2.8, senseup 128x, 5 frames stacked in DeepSkyStacker.

It still looks crap, no pinpoint stars, but you get my point.
Things can only get better.

How are you grabbing each frame or are you converting/recording to DVD?

I capture to a DVD recorder, then the disc goes into the lappy, then I import the .ifo into VirtualDubMod for editing.

Reprocessed

I'm still getting my head around the differences between LCD and CRT. You can lose so much detail if you're not careful.
I reprocessed M31, hope it looks a bit better than the one at the top of the thread.

Yep Jeanette. I can see more detail in the arms
Great work on the processing.

If you want to get rid of the Black-eye around the brighter stars there is a great little program for removing it called 'Loreal'. It can be downloaded from here, it is the 2nd one down: http://astrosurf.com/hfosaf/uk/tdownload.htm#loreal

It is really easy to use.
