Hi all,
I just wanted to say "bravo" (thats italian

) to all regarding their lunar eclipse images. As someone who unknowingly moved to Italy 2 weeks after a visible european lunar eclipse and has now missed one back at home

I had become shall we say a little frustrated.
For me the eclipse went as such. On the 28th around midday(greece time) i was on a ferry between Folegandros and Sifnos. Yeah i know im bragging but i think you'll enjoy this. The "meltimi" a hellish wind that blows from the north was at its best and only the day before most ferries had been cancelled.
The captain attempted to use the leeward side of the islands to protect us from the swell but folegandros is tiny and the protection didnt last long. 20 minutes into the trip the boat began to rock, bearable but a noticable change to the smooth sailing thus far. The next 60 minutes were..... in short......terryfying.
And so it began, waves began crashing into the boat from what seemed like every direction, every single window was now being periodically sprayed with what seemed like the worlds largest hose making it impossible to see exactly what was going on. The rocking had become much more noticable to the the point where we hit one wave with such a thud that the captain immediately reduced the speed of the boat by about a half.
The crowd was tense, ok let me rephrase, i was scared sh$&less but at the point when our vessel was pointed towards the stars destined never to return to the Aegean a woman towards the front let out what i now undesrtand to be a blood curdling scream. In those sort of circumstances when someone makes a complete nob of themselves the crowd almost immediately have a laugh, nobody was laughing. The boat did return to the sea making a noise that im pretty sure boats shouldnt make.
It was around this time i noticed that i had forcibly wedged myself between my seat and the one infront in fear of being flung into the cieling and that i was holding onto the arm rest and my mobile with what can only be described as superhuman strength.
Worried that the excessive pressure and for that matter moisture from my palms might damage the phone I decide to stow it. Do you stow on boats or just on planes? In doing this I realise that my alarm is going off, my phone reads.............
"ECLIPSE IS ON, CALL MUM"
I show my girlfriend my phone and she smiles at me either fearfully or sympatheticallly, just then she whinces and turns away suddenly, confused i turn to see whats happening and low and behold every second person on the boat has decided to throw up together.
I'll be honest, i'm a sympathy spewer, if i think back to anytime where i have been in the presence of somebody vomiting i wasnt far behind. I needed a distraction, i'll call mum, brilliant!!!
So I call, she's very happy to hear from me, the eclipse is incredible, she wishes i was there (yeah mum me too). The next 5-6 min is kind of a blur, of the 8 people sitting in our immediate vicinity 6 of them were very very sick. I obviously participated in the conversation but have no idea what was said the only thing i remember from the description of the eclipse is the word "red" and that someone had a baby(this may not be related to the eclipse).
Im very happy to report that I survived and that i managed to keep the contents of my stomach to myself. We were lucky we were the first stop but for many the day was not over and I did feel bad for them.
So thats my eclipse story, visually spectacular, somewhat emotional and a little sticky at times but a moment not soon forgotten.
Thanks for reading, i know it was long but i had to share it.
