Exclamation SOLD : Meade Series 4000 Ultra Wide Angle eyepieces - PRICE REDUCTION

Here’s a great opportunity to acquire a modern classic (or two) for your eyepiece collection: the 6.7mm and 8.8mm from Meade’s highly-regarded Series 4000 Ultra Wide Angle range. These ‘I can’t believe it’s not Tele Vue’ eyepieces, were Meade’s attempt to claim some of Al Nagler’s “spacewalk” eyepiece territory for themselves, with a set of premium ultra wide angles that are often referred to as the finest eyepieces ever to bear the Meade brandname.

This is what Meade said about them: “These classic Meade 8-element Ultra Wide Angle eyepieces permit extreme image fidelity and sharpness over an amazing 84° apparent field. Series 4000 UWA eyepieces yield the widest possible fields of view consistent with pinpoint edge-of-field sharpness and long eye relief, yet with extremely low astigmatism, spherical aberration and off-axis color.

“Incorporating 7-layer multi-coatings and edge-blackened optics for optimum image contrast, these sophisticated 8-element designs permit levels of optical performance generally impossible to achieve with eyepieces of fewer elements. Series 4000 eyepieces include rubber grips and a soft rubber eyeguard which folds down for spectacle wearers, shielding their glasses from coming into contact with the metal eyepiece housing.

“For moderate-to-high-power applications Meade Ultra Wide Angle oculars provide an uncommon observing experience. A magnificent optical match with Maksutovs, Schmidt-Cassegrains, apochromatic refractors, and fast Newtonians.”

6.7mm Meade Series 4000 Ultra Wide Angle eyepiece, with 1.25” barrel and weight of just 125gr. Excellent condition, complete with original dust-excluding ‘bolt’ case and box, plus non-original end caps as shown. Now $150

8.8mm Meade Series 4000 Ultra Wide Angle eyepiece, with dual 1.25” and 2” barrels, to suit either size diagonal without needing an adaptor. Weight 400gr. Optically sound, some cosmetic wear to lettering, paint and chromed barrel. Locking screw is missing from 2” barrel (users generally remove this screw, for easier eyepiece swapping). Complete with non-original end caps and dust-excluding ‘bolt’ case as shown. Now $180

The above prices include careful packing and insured, registered postage to anywhere in Australia. Inquiries by PM, please.

Meade UWA

Hi Mike,

Are the 2EPs still for sale? If so definitely want the 8.8, am watching the 7mm WO Swan UWAN on Ebay. What the heck, if both available will buy them for $330. I have the series 4000 24.5 SWA already and love it, sold the 18mm SWA but replaced with a 19 Pan. I am keen on WO as I have the 33 and 40mm SWAN also. Intend to use in my TV Genesis on an alt/az mount. Going interstate on Wednesday but will check I&S once there for replies and/or payment. Regards, Peter.
