‘Roos walk on water, Red moon rising & Feathers in the sky

Hello,

One week prior to the Qld Astrofest we went camping at Elanda Point, on Lake Cootharabra some 1 hour from Noosa. Here are some photos we took with our Pentax *ist DS DSLR with the Sigma 18-50mm F3.5-5.6 DC and Sigma 55-200mm F4-5.6 DC kit lenses. A couple were also taken with the WO 80mm EDII refractor.

Cheers

Dennis

PS – Professor Fred Watson concluded his talk at Astrofest on the Saturday with a photo of kangaroos hopping on water too!

Lovely photos Dennis. Elanda Point is a very peaceful place (when it's not school holidays ).

Your campsite looks like the same spot Sya and I had last time we were up there, or very close to it.

Beautiful shots Dennis! All of them! Is it Lake Cootharabra that has Boreen Point in it? It sounds very close to there. I've heard stories about the roos on the water at Boreen Point as well.

Wow !

Dennis, those shots are fantastic. Do you take your camera out looking for shots specifically, or do you always have it 'at the ready' - so to speak.

Cheers,

Hi Paul

We stayed a week and had the place to ourselves for 3 days and nights in the middle of the week. It was so tranquil and peaceful that it required a monumental effort just to motivate ourselves to carry water for the kettle and make a cup of tea!

Cheers

Hi Al

Spot on – we were approx 8 kms from Boreen Point which is fast becoming a busy place rather than remaining a sleepy hamlet. Elanda Point is a privately owned campsite from where you can hire canoes to visit locations such as Harry’s Hut in the Noosa Everglades.

Cheers

Hi Paul

I’m more of an opportunistic photographer – I take a camera on holiday and if something comes up, I’ll attempt to grab it. Unfortunately, I kinda struggle with trying to visualise, set up or create photo’s like some of the more talented and creative people on IceInSpace.

Perhaps it’s a Left/Right Brain thing?

Cheers

Dennis you never cease to amaze me !!
Truly a man of unique talent.

The "roos on water" shot is amazing, I've never seen anything like that before.
You can sell that to a stock photo agency and make a return on that shot I'm sure.
I can see it now on an Australian post card or a postage stamp.

Excellent work on all the shots.

The "feather cloud" is called Fallstreak, and Dennis you have captured it perfectly. It happens when Altocumulus precipitates in a hole and drops ice crystal virga.

Very nice Shots Dennis.
I would agree that the Roo's shot is one that should be on a postcard or on a stock photo site where it can be seen by the masses (do enough like that and it might pay for your holidays !)
Your creative eye for photography looks fine to me

Thanks Andrew, I'll look into that, as it could help pay for the camping fees or SD cards!

Thanks Andrew, for the explanation and the link to the website – I can still see this extraordinary formation in my minds eye.

Thanks Mike - the camp was full of photo opportunities and I had a ball just pointing and shooting.

Being roused from slumber by the “tharrumpp, tharrumpp, tharrumpp ” of kangaroos bounding outside the tent, seemingly just by our heads, was initially quite unnerving. Next, hearing all the splish splash sploshing outside the back door, made us hurriedly unzip the tent flap, to be confronted by the gob smacking sight of these fella’s bounding across the lake, whose shallow depth we were oblivious off until then.

Cheers

Thanks Ian - I used x4 1G SD cards, so I was pleased that I had some keepers from the 300+ photos I took over the week. I'll look into the stock photo suggestion as every penny helps in this expensive hobby of ours!

Cheers
