reprocessed old omega image

Hi Guys,

Due to moon, clouds and all that stuff, i went through some earlier images and found this one of Omega Centauri, imaged early July, i consider it one of the better ones i have done of late.

Processing is not to great, but i'm getting there.

It consists of 20 exposures at 400 IS0 for 35 sec's, each unguided through 300mm F/2.8 Canon Lens on G11 mount, in camera darks, no flats, image is heavily cropped. but seems to hold it together fairly well.

The image file compression for posting on IIS looks quite severe (blocky stars) - or is that an artefact of processing and cropping??? Nonetheless a lovely pic. The shear number of stars resolved is amazing. That Canon lens is a beaut!

You are right Doug, don"t think i will post anymore until i get this stuff under control, the resizing seems to be the problem.

Hi Leon, you can still tell there is a great image hiding underneath despite the compression. When you sort it out your going to have some lovely images to post.

Are you using photoshop CS/CS2/CS3?

Thanks Guys, yep i will get through this Mike, especially after today, Ken actually came to my place and showed me how to resize in PS2, I never knew it existed, now things should be better.

Gee's you guys would not want to know how i used to resize.

We're happy to talk you through it - because there could be others who also weren't sure how to do it without introducing horrible compression artifacts.

Thats a pretty good omega closeup Leon for the 300mm lense!!! I don`t think the 200mm one can quiet keep up with it..!!!
I find that deepsky pics usually compress better than the widefield shots due to the huge amount of stars etc in the image. If it looks too blocky and has artifacts I usually upload the image to the IIS ftp server at a lower compression.
