introducing myself

hi everyone!

I`m Dietmar, an Austrian amateur astrofotographer.`
Following an invitation of Iceman, who I know form CN I just registered to this forum. Mike - here I am

I have spent some time to skim the posts in this forum and I feel, it is a nice place here with lots of nice guys - so I sure gonna like being with You.

I am 38, married to Christine, most beloved better half; we got 3 kiddies.
I work as a orthopedic trauma and hand surgeon in a hospital in Linz, Austria.
http://mstecker.com/pages/apphager.htm

some more info about me and can be found here:
http://stargazer.christelhager.info/about_stargazer.htm

my observatory is located near my house, containing 3 TMB Apo scopes.9,5, and 4 inches aperture.
I most frequently use SXV M25C but also SXV H16, when I had it here for trial runs - I`m currently waiting for a H35 prototype to test it for SX...and my own purposes.

I guess that is enough for the moment.

See You in the deepsky and planetary forums!
unfortunately at my place (48° north!!!) jupiter is just a colorful wobbling lightball close to the horizon,...so I`m looking very much forward to gazing at Your great images of my favourite planet You guys in "down under" have taken.

greets - Diets

Hi Dietmar

Welcome to Ice In Space. Loved looking at your website at the amazing images and the incredible collection of equipment. Your work as a surgeon must also be very rewarding when your patients regain functions which had previously been impaired or lost.

Glad to see you are using apo optics in the theatre too! No place for CA there eh!

Cheers

Dennis

my place

...thanx Dennis and Phil!

Dennis - yes. even though my job (and some patients also... ) are sometimes very demanding, I love my job.

Phil - here are a couple of images of the place I live in:

looking at the hill, on which my observatory is placed on from northeast:

and in wintertime...the white thing is called "snow"

here comes the very best - our new house we have just moved to.
take a close look - isn`t it perfectly dedicated to astronomy - eh?

Hi Dietz and welcome to the group, I hope you have a great time with us.

I must say the area you live in look absolutely stunning and your observatory look like it is in a perfect spot as well. Your images in the deep sky section and the APOD are real stunners as well.

Cheers

Nice home setting

Dietmar, I've been having problems with an Xpress SXV M25C. Maybe you can help me sort it out.

I was using an SXV M25C for a couple of weeks and I couldn't seem to be able to save fits files in such a way with the SXV M25C_USB Image processing software that other programs could successfully read (Maxim, AIP4WIN). This was particularly the case after synthesising to a colour colour image. Nor could I open other fits files into SXV M25C_USB Image processing software (Captured using Maxim DL). I kept getting fits error messages and SXV errors.

Any ideas what was going wrong?

welcome to the site Dietz.

yes, love your work on CN.

good to see you are young enough still to come to huge house warming party at bird's place in 2018.

I have invited my good friends mars, saturn and jupiter to crash the party, so bring a scope. the kids can come and chase some kangaroos around!

Welcome Dietmar
You have stunning images and a fantastic setup. Shame it can't be in my nice dark front yard here in rural Oz. You could always come and visit. We could use a new orthopod.

...thanx Ispom (grüße ins nachbarland), Narayan, Paul, David and Terry.

Paul, I understand you used the original SX software...right?
if so, it is true - the fits of that software cannot be opened up in other programmes,...unfortunately.
I encountered just the same problem.
my reccomendation is:
use astroart4 for image acquisition and autoguiding - it runs nicely and reliably.
if you don`t have astroart then go ahead and use maxim dl - I have no personal experience with maxim, but I know some guys who use this software successfully for image acquisition and guiding.

Ian, the software-brrain at SX, worked on the problem, but it seems there has not been any improvement - how old is your cam?
have you tried to download the most recent software from sx webpage, yet?
perhaps Ian has completed the revision of the software...and fits can be transported elsewhere...?
http://www.starlight-xpress.co.uk/software.htm

hope this helps.
