Thanks a heap Ric, previous images of ngc6744 I've had with other scopes have never shown as what this newt is pulling in.
I'm pretty happy now I've got my Newt to where I want it.
Just need some good clear ones

M16 is looking good, despite the notorious pink hues common with HaRGB blends. How did you combine the data – Did you first blend the Ha at 50%, then manage the colours before finally introducing the Ha at 100% or did you first blend the Ha data into the R channel to make an HaR blend, then colour combining(then optionally adding the Ha as the luminance)?
With only 24mins per colour channel it’s going to be tough to balance the contrast of 117mins of Ha data (vast contrast differences). You can stretch the colour data you’ve got, but only so far before it introduces too much noise. Under the circumstances, you’ve done an exceptional job at processing. |
Hi Jase and thanks for the nice comments as well as your good observations concerning N6744....
I wasn't overly happy with the brightness and vitality to the stars or the galaxy on the original, so I've just uploaded another redux which I think has improved the overall effect that you mentioned and that I was seeking.
Still the lack of colour data is it's down fall not to mention the poxy gradient line to the top and some cropping needed.
I also did a bit of Neat noise reduction to clean things up a bit.

My M16 I brought the rgb composite into PS, did a star mask to select most of the stars and hit 'minimum' filter set to 1... then used fade to 50%, this was to reduce the rgb's stars size to match the Ha. Then hit 'channels', scolled down to the red channel, copied it to a new background, added the Ha at around 40-50% 'normal', merged then copied this back to the red channel on the RGB. Then added the Ha as lum using Steve Canistra's Lum corrected LRGB method, which I always use to retain control and also keep my stars and object from getting too washed out. I then did some selective masking to areas of interest to push up the contrast... after this it's a blur,.. a little of this a little of that.
It was tough going processing this one and generally like to have Lum to use as well.... but weather calls for a minimalistic approach from the norm..

Thanks Nick! The weather has been all over the place and had a mixture of reasonable subs with average stars and other subs with stars a bit on the mushy side to combine... guess we gotta make do with what we get!!
Focus Max did it's best with what it had.. my guiding was a bit iffy with the guide star fading in and out...

So much detail even with the seeing being iffy.
I don`t mind a little noise as removing it usually means a loss of fine detail!!
The pillars in M16 have heaps of detail and look fantasic against the rest of the neb!!!!!!
