hotmail problems

anyone having trouble logging onto their hotmail or gmail - any other type of site ?

i am having trouble logging on to certain sites (mostly hotmail) from a multiple port modem/router.

but the strange thing is - if i swap over to a single port modem/router - the problem disappears

any ideas or feed back appreciated

I was just on them both and was able to log in fine.

It sounds like that multi port router is playing up if all is ok from a single port router (that suggests your PC is fine). I suspect the multi port router is having trouble with NAT'ing the secure http (https) part of the login process for those sites if you can get to them ok (and other websites) but can't login.

Nothing changed with the configuration? Has anyone been playing with the port forwarding / blocking settings? Just wondering if something is blocking https.

If nothing has changed then try a good power reset (leave off for 20 seconds or so). If that fails you can try defaulting it to its factory settings (I know it's a pain) and see if that clears the problem. If it still plays up then you can turn it into a switch and connect the multi port to the single port via one of the switch ports and disable the NAT and DHCP functions on the multi port router.

Cheers,
Greg

Case closed - thanks

turned out to be MTU packet size set too high

dropped from 1492 to 1400 and it resolved the problem (so-far)
