ISP providers bumping up charges

My ISP Exetel 50/20 plan unlimited was charging ne $60 per month in June 2024, then in went to around $75 in Jan this year now they want to bump it up again to $85 in June - is it the ISP or NBN raising their prices or both. As a pensioner using mobile phones it will be costing me around $120 a month in telecommunication charges. I have had no equivalent increase in the rate of my pension. Anyone know if you can port your email address to a new provider

Generally you can't port your email address to a new provider. I think that's where Gmail and yahoo become the better option not that I use either of those accounts I still have.



I have a 250/25 plus mobile phone through Exetel, the phone is unlimited calls and texts. The internet is $98 per month and the phone is $28 per month. The internet used to be cheaper but there was a slight rise in plans some month back because of the NBN I believe, after it went to fibre to the premises from the old copper node crap, I think I was paying $85.
I do know one thing and that is the deals I get in NSW are not the same as offered elsewhere in other states but I have no logical explanation for that.
But yes, as a pensioner it can get out of hand, I'm lucky to have my son to help with the bills.
I do know when the higher speed service is available we are supposed to be getting a free upgrade to the higher speed plan and apparently it's coming September 25 and going up to 750/50.

Trevor, prices and plans change around a lot I've moved to a poor mobile coverage area east of Brisbane and now use Tangerine who resell Telstra for $22 / mnth per mobile number and will give us best coverage out west.

NBN seem to dictate Internet pricing and plans/pricing are moving around now. I just moved from TPG 50/20 to a Tangerine 100/20 plan for the same money. Real cheap for 6 mths. I've heard this will be pushed to 500/80 soon ? But we have fibre to the house so that probably makes a difference.

It pays to have an independent email address like a gmail, hotmail, or outlook. If your email address is a provider address eg joe.blow@bigpond.com then you probably can't port it to a different provider.

I live in the country where there is no NBN to the home, only satellite options. I use a mobile device for everything, telecom, plus mobile hotspot for internet. It gives me between 7Mbps and 30Mbps depending on the network performance at any given time. Costs me $35 per month. I get 55GB of data per month banked if I don't use it plus unlimited calls and texts. I don't stream TV through internet, I use free to air and occasionally stream something to my laptop.

Another option is to setup your own domain name. You can usually have a email address attached to it with your real name, without having to resort to the cryptic pickings from GMail
e.g. B1not2Banana@gmail.com
