The Homunculus Nebula

The homunculus is the remnant of an explosive event involving the star Eta Carinae. It is embedded in the much larger Carina Nebula. Wikipedia has an excellent article about this object at: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Homunculus_Nebula

This image was compiled from forty exposures using a Celestron EdgeHD 8-inch SCT and an ASI2600MCPro camera mounted on a ZWO AM5 (apologies for poor quality focussing). Embiggened version at: https://app.astrobin.com/i/ps3372

Amazing photo mate. Do you use weights with your AM5? I’m thinking of getting an Edge8 myself and wondering about weights and the ability for the tc40 to hold an sct.

Yes, I do use a counterweight with the AM5 - the mount will easily handle the 8-inch SCT, but I'm nervous about where the centre of gravity is when slewing, so the weight keeps it inside the tripod legs. I use the counterweight bar and 2kg weight that fits the Star Adventurer model.

Not using the Duo?
The bright rimmed globule always fascinates me. Its blurry what happened?
Focus shift after setting it somehow?
Try the high pass filter in PS and it might sharpen up a bit.

I use the tc40 with the wave 150i and c925. No dramas at all.
With counterweight, helps with tracking, but have had good results without, as long as it's not too windy
