just to clarify

Waterside Exclusion Zone to be implemented

Newcastle Port Corporation today announced a Waterside Exclusion Zone in the area surrounding the Pasha Bulker at Nobbys Beach, Newcastle.

CEO, Newcastle Port Corporation, Gary Webb, today advised that the Waterside Exclusion Zone would be in force from 6am tomorrow (Friday, 22 June 2007) until further notice.

The Waterside Exclusion Zone is being implemented to assist in the salvage operations of the Pasha Bulker, Mr Webb advised.

The exclusion zone extends 1000 metres south-east to sea from the Cowrie Hole at Newcastle and 870 metres south-east to sea from the end of the Southern Breakwater.

All vessels and persons, unless authorised, must remain outside the zone. The perimeter of the zone will be identified by flashing lights on buoys and will be patrolled by authorities, Mr Webb said.

This notice is made pursuant to the Harbour Masters powers under Section 94 of the Ports and Maritime Administration Act of 1995.

tell him that it will be prime time and that they may close all access for vehicles into the area. He would be better off parking and walking to the site.

very interesting. helicopters flying around and landing on the ship. waves smashing up and over side. and the ships lights are on at night.

Now that's nifty, fairly decent frame rate as well. I wonder if they'll ever get it back to sea....???

fascinating wave dynamics - watch the waves rebounding from the ship's hull and passing over the incoming waves achieving a high amplitude - quite fun.

Important new for those wanting to see the refloating

Pasha Bulker update- the attempt will be around 6pm thursday night (28 June) on a 1.8m high tide.

The entire inner city of Newcastle will be shut down (traffic wise) and exclusion zones setup east of Watt street(no pedestrians or sightseers) in the morning. No traffic will go past Watt street and the exclusion zone is set to go past Fort Scratchly (only area for media to attend).

I will be trying to secure a Media Spot, but don’t like my chances.

All will be made public later tonight on the news.

Reckon they'll turn the Nobby's beach webcam off then?? I suspect not since a big contingent of media will be watching. It'll probably be a slow boring success!
