Why Does FaceBook Want My DOB/Image?

Hello There

Was looking at FaceBook Market Place for a ST80. I was asked to give FaceBook my DOB and image in order to join. I refused because it is to personal. I blocked FaceBook from sending me anymore emails. Thanks to you all.

Don't use FB - its not the place to find gear worth buying, nor is it much good for selling gear either.

I've bought a few items on FB I don't use the marketplace but rather the dedicated astronomy buy/sell. Just be careful

When the internet kicked off I told my kids....don't put anything up there you don't want the whole world to know....forever...

I know 'we' are good people.... (I hope so anyway)

But I'm astonished at the personal info people put up that could be used to steal identity....

Sorry to be a dibby downer on this lighthearted thread.

Yeah, don't do that.
Facebook fooled a lot of people into handing over their personal information. Then once there was a large enough number of people on it, they sold that information to whomever would pay for it.
In Australia you have zero recourse for this. In the US and some EU countries you can get it deleted, but not here.
I haven't signed up for any further social media, and put false information onto the ones that I do have. Possibly shutting the gate after the horse has bolted though.
