A Good Video To Watch Before Buying A 12 Inch Dob

Hello There

For me it is just to big. When I can afford it the EdgeHD 11 is more to my liking. I already have a SkyTee mount for it. It will be more relaxing to use and take to my dark sites. What say you?

Aside from the size/weight there are other factors to consider depending on what you're doing with it, namely:
  1. f/5 on 12inch Newt VERSUS f/10 on Edge 11 - Huge difference in exposure of 2 stops (25% of light per unit image circle area)
  2. 1500 mm VERSUS 2800mm focal length

In terms of light gathering either are much better than smaller offerings, but how much difference you will see in terms of resolution is another story, limited by the atmosphere, the precision of the mount used, any optical aberrations, contrast and image scale. It's not a given that bigger is better in sharpness/resolution terms.

Best
