2nd Oct 2024 Solar activity

2nd Oct.
At last a beautiful day to image the Sun - no clouds or strong wind. Got my Lunt 100 Ha scope out and captured this image. Single exposure of 1/80 sec with Canon 550d. Notice most sunspot activity is in the southern hemisphere.

Also the mean sunspot number for Sept was 141.4 which is significantly down on last months mean of 215.5. Was last months mean THE maximum ??? Only time will tell. I have attached the graph from SWS of BOM to show what has happened with the mean SSN so far for cycle 25.

Interesting Post John, my 1st thoughts were solar cycle was to peak next year but wow a count of 215 is a very high total for a month,, equal to some peak counts in 1990. Seems Max Cycle activity has waned last two seasons, maybe springing back up this time around ?
Nice shootin image of Sol there btw..
