Would This be Close Enough

Hi All.

After drift aligning, and considering that to be pretty much right, I thought I would just see how close i was to the pole.

With the G11, and i presume with other mounts when i send it to park home it points directly to the SCP and shuts down.

I decided to take an image of that region to see if the scope was actually pointing in the right direction.

I ended up with the image below.

Although not dead center of the FOV, would this be acceptable for being aligned, or would i need to adjust the mount slightly to get it centered.

On saying that, when looking through a scope without a Diagonal, is the view as seen, is the adjustment required reversed, by this i mean, if i wanted to adjust to the West, according to the view, do i actually move it a bit East, and so on.

Also could the scope actually be sitting ever so slightly out of line to off center the view, and the mount be well aligned.

Anyway your opinions would be much appreciated.

Than You

Leon

Hi Leon,
Did you take this image through the Tak?
I am trying to pick out the area in Octans but its a bit hard to say with the trailing....
Maybe like you mention, that the scope axis is not parallel with the mounts axis.. If you rotate your OTA 180 deg and take another image it will show as being off centre on the other side...
Sorry a I can`t help any more..
cheers Gary

Yes Gary it was with the Tak, and what you say with the 180 degrees rotation of the tube sounds like a good experiment.

I will give that a go tonight.

Thanks, Leon

I have the EQ6 mount and when I park it it goes to home, which is not the SCP but the exact position the scope was in when the mount was powered up. You can easily test this by pointing the scope up at the zenith say and then powering up the mount. Then send it 'home'This is one of the aspects of the german mounts I don't like, at least the skywatcher EQ series There is no correlation between the declination and RA circles as far as SCP goes, or anything else for that matter? The circles might as well not even be there for all the good they serve. Mind you with the polar scope well aligned it doesn't really matter.

Yep, I totally agree. You never really know if the scope is pointing accurately at the SCP in the Home Position. As long as the mount is, it doesn't matter too much.
