Quick GPU shout out - never too old!!!

Just an FYI - I got my hands on a old GTX1070 GPU (the card was about 6 years old) and plugged it into my pixinsight computer. Despite the age of the card, the speed boost is astonishing! A blurX on a mono image from my 2600 finished in less than 30 sec!
I installed using instructions from the RC-astro sight: https://www.rc-astro.com/gpu-acceler...powered-tools/
Goes to show you don't need to have the latest GPU card to get a lot of benefit! I highly recommend getting any nVidia CUDA card -they are a great value for money add on!

How hard was it to configure? I read the instructions and my eyes glazed over

I followed the instructions step by step in the rc-Astro site - they took a while (lots to download) but it worked on the first try.

Despite it now being a few years old, my AMD threadripper Nvidia RTX based machine would process neural net tasks fairly promptly....or so I thought.

Following the RCAstro instructions there was not much difference, if any. I then went into the Nvidia GPU driver settings. Checked the GPU processing box to use all cores.

OMG! 9000 x 6000 pixel images were being processed in ~40 seconds

Well worth the effort

That's an interesting article, Thanks!

My son did most of my processing on his machine with a 1060 because his system was so much faster than my old thing. I recently got him a 3060 but the 1060 will go into something else eventually. Not my system, it's SFF (small form factor) and the card is too big.
I have so much old hardware here that comes in handy at times, I've been building and repairing PC's since the late 80s.
Sometimes it's just for a component I can't get locally to build or fix some other electronic device.
