Mr Garradd snares another!

New Discovery!: An apparently asteroidal object discovered by G. J. Garradd on May 23, 2007, in the course of the Siding Spring Survey has been found to be cometary by R. H. McNaught by co-adding follow-up images taken at Siding Spring. Prediscovery images by the same survey of Apr. 18, 2007, were also found. The 18.5m comet C/2007 K3 (Siding Spring) will pass perihelion on Apr. 21, 2008, at about 2.1 AU. The comet may reach 13m. This is the 34th comet for the Siding Spring Survey. You dont get your name on a comet unless you tell the MPC that it is a comet with the discovery astrometry report. This one looked asteroidal on 30 sec exposures. Rob only noticed it had a coma after adding 6 X 60 sec exposures, and the barest minimum coma was there, only seen due to the very good seeing that night. I've got a few like that, not much that can be done as we use short exposures for surveying, so we will always report a few as asteroids rather than comets.

Prospects are for it to be not very exciting!
