M6 Wide

The Widening. Trying out the DSLR... just for fun.
Just using the 24-105 lens that came with the 6D when my wife got it for work.

I love these shots, usually galaxies or galaxy clusters, that fill one with a sense of awe and wonder.

I manually focused with my fingers and eyes, yeah I know right? It took ages, and there were tears. One star. Would not recommend.

I had to stop down from F/4 to F/8 because the stars looked like comets, actually it looked exactly like a "too close" back focus problem at least visually. At F/8 is was better but not great. Since I was just having fun I let 'er buck.

Canon 6D @ 24mm F/8.
27 x 90s 1600g

I could not for the life of me get ImageSolver to work in PI and therefore no SPCC so I went with simple ColourCalibration and BackgroundNeutralisation.

As always tips, tricks, criticism and comments most welcome.

Now you are cooking man...I love it.. I hope folk starting out realise that wide fields with a DLSR are very rewarding.
Well done.

Looks good to me! Great contrast between the stars and the background, round stars, and not too over-saturated with the galactic core colours.

Oh yeah, I feel your pain with manual focusing on stars, too...

Why don't you use the camera's Liveview at 5x or 10x?

Cheers Raymo. I was at first, but the seeing was wobbly and it was hard to be consistent so I took 5s frames and compared the pic and HFR in nina. Apparently, according the the comments in the cad file, a bahtinov for 24mm is so fine my printer cant handle it. I tried the mask for 105mm and it was an out of focus screen rather than a mask

I love a good ultra-wide field - beautiful image, John ... +1 for the accolades below. Have you considered combining with SHO or even just Ha, to tease out extra detail? How did you go with sampling noting the 6D has a 6.5um pixel size and the lens' small focal length? Used drizzle integration? Alex

Cheers Alex. I was going to try several hours to more get colour, this was only 40 mins. I hadn't even thought of drizzle but it's ideal for this, thanks mate.
