Astronomical Sketch of the Day

Hello!
Even though I am not as active on these boards as others are, some might remember that every once in a while I am posting a set of sketches in the Deep Sky section.
In general, sketchers seem to be a little underrepresented in the huge astronomical online community, maybe even due to the fact of the many avid (and wonderful) photographers that are sometimes "stealing" the show with their magnificent and fantastic pictures.
Nevertheless, the sketching community is thriving and recently Rich Handy and Jeremy Perez, two busy sketchers and active members of the Cloud Nights board, have set up a site called "Astronomy Sketch of the Day", every day a new sketch along with some notes and further data is presented, mostly those are current sketches, done by sketchers active in the forums (I've been on there three or four times myself), sometimes it's also historical sketches, but everyone can participate.
So if anyone is interested in the website or even in reaching in a sketch or two (Southern Hemisphere is severely underrepresented), here's the deal:
http://www.asod.info
You can find all relevant information here.
Would be cool to see some of you on there!

Sebastian

P.S. I was not asked to do this "advertisement", nor do I or anyone else take any monetary profit (or otherwise) either out of the site or out of spreading the word - I did this on my own accord and I just wanted the message to make the round.

Hello, Sebastian

Thanks for the news about the sketching community. I always find it interesting and illuminating to read about, and see, the exploits of other branches of amateur astronomy.

Somewhat lacking in talent myself, it is very enjoyable and inspiring to see astronomical sketches, whether created by the talented "old masters" or beginners to the art form.

Maybe in the next lifetime, I just might be lucky enough to inherit the necessary genes to give it a go myself?

Cheers

Dennis
