Sun images from Melbourne 12 July 2023

We had a brief respite from the clouds yesterday morning. We can add yet another impediment to astronomy. We couldn't start until a bit late, again due to the road workers. But this time they were grinding asphalt and there were clouds of dust blowing everywhere - definitely not good for optics.

We started with some close up images in 540nm using the 6" SCT. Unfortunately the seeing was average and very variable. Even taking up to 10 videos of each active region, we still didn't get a good one for quite a few regions. In fact there were only three barely passable images and we didn't get one of the "super size me" AR3363. It was good however, to see the two new incoming areas with ARs 3371 & 3370 in the south and AR3372 in the north. The other one we kept was of the outgoing ARs 3369, 3368 and 3366. This region was putting on a great show of surges in Ha.

We then took a full disk two panel mosaic in 393nm followed by another two panel mosaic in Ha. By this time inevitable return of the clouds had happened and stopped play.
