Very funny Hans and your post gives opportunity to comment on re enactments..doesn't it?
There are folk who think they are a great idea and no doubt folk who think there is something odd with those who participate in a re enactment of war.

There was a Vicking re enactment thing in Lismore a week or so ago...I would have gone but it was clear they were not going to do a "blood eagle" re enactement for some reason...

I wonder what the appeal is with re enactments?

I believe a lot of people are interested in history, not just reading about it but living it and reenactment is the closest thing they will get to experiencing an event. The US are proud of their history particularly the Civil War era. In the Airforce we had a couple guys into Medieval reenactment .. making their own chainmail Armour. Some people are into War reenactment using Minifigures, scale models of equipment and detailed layouts recreating battles.

Yes I can understand the interest in history but what I don't understand is being happy to pretend killing someone or being killed...sure I did that when a kid, cow boys and Indians etc but for adults it seems very odd to me...it is as though they have no comprehension of the serious nature of war... further there seems to be an un necessary and dubious glorification of war and killing...at the risk of being judgemental I would label all of it infantile.

As to medieval reenactment it would seem to me there is little in medieval history to evoke nostalgia as these were rather harsh and cruel times swiming in ignorance and superstition where most folk were little more than slaves.

No doubt all this behaviour can be attributed to the unhealthy diet of fiction, that our culture accepts as normal, .... why folk entertain delusions via made up stories is beyond my understanding...I guess there is something missing in their lives such that indulgence in fiction acts like some sort of drug that causes them to accept make believe rather than reality.

Live long and prosper..hang on ..take note of the sinister way fiction corrupts even our everyday speech...

However..have a great day Hans I hope you are doing well.

Alex
