Researchers warn that Sucralose artificial sweetener can cause damage to DNA

In a 29 May 2023 paper published in the Journal of Toxicology and
Environmental Health, researchers from North Carolina warn of what
they describe as "significant health concerns regarding the safety and
regulatory status of sucralose"

Sucralose is an artificial sweetener, sold under the trade name Splenda.
The research findings are that one of the ingredients of Sucralose,
sucralose-6-acetate, can cause damage to the DNA in cells. This could
possibly increase the risk of cancer.

Splena is the number one selling artificial sweetener in the United States.
It appears in thousands of products, including in unexpected places such
as Difflam sore throat lozenges and sprays.

Thanks Gary. Makes one wonder what tests were done before the product was approved. I would have thought that this sort of test would be number 1.

Did some follow up reading. Have you seen the WHO advice to stop using artificial sweeteners for weight loss https://www.who.int/news/item/15-05-...ased-guideline and a summary paper of research on the topic ?https://www.who.int/publications/i/item/9789240046429 They didn't find any clear link to cancer or other health issues, but they also noted nothing beneficial and the paper is full of "needs more research" statements.
