Supernova in the Southern pinwheel Galaxy

So, I am at an alcoholic lunch today and a friend says: "a supernova was observed in the southern Pinwheel Galaxy last night." I say: "well I have 3 hrs of luminance on that from last night". Spot the supernova.

I really hate to be the bearer of bad news, but it seems the supernova was in M101, The Pinwheel Galaxy, rather than M83, The Southern Pinwheel (see this link). Maybe your friend imbibed too much.

Oops!

Well there you go. Thanks for the clarification. Hmm . . Perhaps I should have checked myself before posting! Silly me, I wasn't in a position to fact check it at the time, and as I said "spot the supernova" I could not find it either. Glad you liked the Luminance image. cheers.
