A gentle reminder on forum behaviour

A few months ago , things were starting to get out of control on the forums with many threads containing more meaningless and joke posts, than posts with any real value. As a result the moderators discussed, formulated and posted guidlines on forum behaviour. I encourage those who havent already read them to do so.

It has been noticed lately that things are beginning to slide back to the way they were before the guidelines were formulated.

In particular, there have been a few posts lately in the dso and planetary imaging forums of photoshop created pictures designed purely for humour purposes posted in the same thread as serious astrophotography photos. Please have some consideration for those who take their astrophotography seriously and dont devalue their work by placing fake pictures which may be construed as mocking their efforts.

On a more general note, posts in all but the general chat section should keep to the topic at hand with tomfoolery kept to a bare minimum. Remember, if it were you asking for help or advice, you may be annoyed if your thread is hijacked by others just for the sake of a laugh.

In general , please think before pressing the submit button how your post may affect others and if what you are adding to the thread contributes to , or detracts from the discussion taking place.

Thanks for your time.

Geoff

^^ I support this product and/or service

Geoff's right though.. Over the past few months there's been very little in the way of spam which has been great.. don't let us regress back to the days which saw the need to introduce the posting guidelines.

For those that haven't read the guidelines, please do so. They're in the sticky ANNOUNCEMENT thread at the top of each and every forum, so you can't miss them.

We're not trying to discourage fun and a fun atmosphere.. just keep it to the general chat forum.

Sorry. I'm Guilty

I apologise to those who feel offended by altering their images. No malice or intent to harm their profesionalism or good character was intended, especially 1ponders.

But I was just looking at the lighthearted side of life?

You should have mentioned my Name...I'm guilty...

But I will blame the baggage handlers at Sydney Airport, its their fault.

I agree with the terms painfully as it is...but I agree.

Yep the same handful of troublemakers. I'm guilty too, and so is Bwyan..... Apologies to those with their sensitivity set too high.... but part of the appeal of this forum is the light hearted banter. Why not conduct a poll to see if members love or hate it.

I'd have to agree with Mike and the Moderators. There has to be limits. I think a poll would only show that everyone likes a good laugh. But theres a right place for it. The moderators have a job to do and I think they do a good job of it. Dont get me wrong , I like the little quips and photo magic but there's times when good threads get derailed and sidetracked and thats a shame.
The site needs to maintain credibility to keep its foothold .
So have a thought for the originator of the thread, whether their asking for help on a frustrating problem or have spent hours fighting fog, clouds, the cold, the dew ,or whatever else mother nature has thrown at them, just to get the images we all wish we could do.
