Evolution of the processing of NGC2244 Rosette Nebula

Thought it might be interesting for the forum members to see the evolution of the processing of the NGC2244 Rosette Nebula data taken late in 2022. From raw to final image with some comments.

Equipment: WO Zenithstar 61 + ASI294MC Pro

Update: a larger less compressed version is here: https://ibb.co/7XjBgvw

The final image is posted here: https://www.iceinspace.com.au/forum/....php?p=1581084

It is very decent of you to take the time to post this and it must be very helpful to many folk who wonder about their initial data.
Thanks for posting.

Thanks very much for posting this.

In step 4 you mention "star and starless images" - how did you go about separating the stars from the background?

Thanks,
V

Nice illustration of the progression, and a great result.

Hi Steve,

I use StarXterminator as a plug-in in Affinity Photo. I perform the operation on the 32-bit tiff output from Siril. But you can also use Starnet.

I think a future version of Siril might support Starnet (thanks Adam). Would be interesting to see how the separation in linear format compares to my current workflow (separation in non-linear).

Thank you gents. I am still wondering about my data as well But hope this post is of any help. Just noticed the image uploader compression has made it look very compressed. Will see if I can upload elsewhere and link it.

Hi,

Thanks for answering my question. I'll have to look into StarXterminator some more, then. I've had a very quick play with starnet++, but am looking for an easy way to get the two starred / starless images.

I looked at the link Adam provided, and SiriL looks like it will support starnet / starnet++ in version 1.2.0. We just have to be patient and wait for it to be released.

Cheers,
V
