Aussies lead way in satellite-to-satellite in-orbit inspection

24 year-old Australian software engineer Samantha Kirkwood, a graduate from UNSW, is working with cutting-edge space technology to help manage the large volume of objects orbiting in space.

As a research and development engineer at an Australian space industry startup, Kirkwood's company recently developed satellite software inspection technology that allows them to take diagnostic images of objects in orbit and assess if they are functioning properly.

They are the first private company in the world to provide in-orbit inspection commercially and have access to a network of 35 high-quality cameras in space. Kirkwood is excited to be part of the growing space industry in Australia and still holds onto her dream of one day traveling to space.
