*NEW* Electronics mounting system, cable management

Hi

A while back I was looking for DIY 3D printable electronics mounting solutions for my ED80 and I stumbled across a forum on Cloudy Nights. Anyway, long story short, Rob at https://www.starclamps.com/ was friendly enough to let me trial some of his prototype mounting components on my ED80 as I was getting frustrated with cable mess and the set up and take down routine.

The attached pictures show his system on my ED80 with Raspberry Pi, DIY power box, cables, and Starlink USB hub mounted securely on an HEQ5 mount. The electronics are well balanced on the OTA and I can lift the whole assembly off in one go after unplugging the battery and mount drive cable. I am now more motivated to get the scope out.

Seems like a thoughtfully designed and nicely integrated system to me and the quality of the printed parts is great and they are light weight but rigid. Big thanks to Rob

That's a very good looking setup, I like it a lot. Give me something to aim for with my setup and it's "interesting" cable management.

I just need to learn how to drive a CAD system and find room for a 3D printer and a CNC milling machine and a workshop and...

Cheers,
V

Thanks

That whole setup weights about 6.25kg, including DSLR. The weight penalty for all the tidiness is quite low. I also like that the additional mass is fairly well distributed around the tube, at least visually. I chose to mount what I could on the OTA but Rob also has options to mount gear to tripod legs.

Check him out because he does custom designs as well as his other regular products

Your setup is looking quite neat and tidy. I'm curious about your DIY power box and Starlink USB hub. I found your post about the power box but not the Starlink USB hub. Could you please provide a link to it?

Cheers,

Tim

Inspiring. I have the same ED80 Gold and reducer, and am currently in the process of finalising my rig. Thanks for the post.
