Blast from the recent past-McNaught

Yesterday, I found a roll of 35mm film lying around, and I thought, I wonder if I have the last few shots of McNaught on it? So I got them developed today.

So far, I had managed to stuff up 5 wasted rolls of film to try to capture this magnificent spectacle. I actually gave up.


OMG!!! I got a whole roll of decent shots. I am elated! What, with the success of capturing the Eagle last night, and now this!

Unfortunately, while the glossy photo prints look absolutely magnificent, a bit of image quality has been lost scanning it and putting it here. Still, I hope you mob like it!

I'll chuck it on the A.S.I.G.N. site tomorrow if I can.

My mcNaught experience re imaging was a horror story also, specially with the film! the 400 speed expensive roll of film with my best shots turned out grainy!? bizarre! films dead, its all over, the quality has gone down the toilet, well at least its randomly gone down the toilet, no consistency anymore, and the shops/processors couldnt give a stuff.
also learned just lately, no-one is doing glossy prints over 6x4 - thats it kaput then, coz the so-called high res scans on a disc they offer as alternative - forget it thats a joke, doesnt come anywhere even slightly near a high res scanned glossy print in quality.
so dodgy film, and a dodgy 350d chip + dodgy weather at time = cursed
boy this is a masochistic pursuit

Yes, film, I dabbled in it for a little while earlier this year.
I think that unless you develop it yourself you will only have grief.
The seventeen year old who presses the buttons on the automatic developer has no idea. He/She is only interested about when lunch is.
I much prefer the instant gratification of digital.

i may of spoke to soon, I scanned and processed one of my best film prints of Comet McNaught from evening of 22nd jan, and tried a trick from the digital realm (difference/ version layered and opacity applied - aka the poormans dark frame) as well as processing prior, to get rid of strange graineness and redness in original (I had new prints made and all that, its definately the film/negatives)
these are just first attempts, i think i can do better with a 2400 dpi 48bit colour scan yet

JJ, at school, like a lot of students back then, i dabbled in darkroom/film photography - and i dont begrudge them not liking chemicals anymore lol they must be loving that aspectof the new age

here's the orig nothing done to it - anyway i hope to an even better job eventually, sure i lost some detail, but it looks very natural to my memory, and it was better result/salvage than simply darkening pic
