Andromeda's Blue Snowball

Hi all.

Last night I observed NGC 7662, the Blue Snowball planetary nebula in Andromeda for the first time.It is rather low for us Aussies to observe, from Perth it culminates at 15° which is the altitude I caught it last night. Even though it was low in the north I could make out it's blue colour through my 10 inch dob.

Who else has observed this far northern object? What were your impressions of it? Happy stargazing!

Hi Steve. Thanks for your comments and link, very interesting read! I've only seen M31 once so far, last year in my first year of serious observing. Andromeda has some interesting deep sky objects, the Blue Snowball, Andromeda galaxy, Almach, NGC 752 among others. You did very well to see the Andromeda galaxy from Hobart

my observing notes note the following, from Warwick (Qld) with my 20" dob on 17/08/2020: "intense bright blue ball of good size, with OIII suggesting some faint outer nebulosity".


I really go overboard when describing things.




I'm keen to capture your recent views of NGC 1399 & NGC 1404!

Hi Patrick. That's a fantastic description of a fantastic object. It must have looked great through your 20"!
