Yep, we have had threads on this phenomenon twice before. Fascinating isn't it!!!!

Even my 11 year old son reads the messages in the jumbled text easily without pause.

yeh but you still have to have the correct letter at the beginning and ends of the words, and no letters missing at all - seems like a lot of effort when you could just write it correctly

There are typo errors, and then there is habitual poor/bad spelling and grammar.

theres little difference between a typo and bad spelling on teh recieving end tho matt. on the recieving end it looks the same.

My two cents about the topic...
English is not my "mother tongue" and yet, I can read this jumbled texts just like you guys, with the same constraints (first and last letter etc)... Which supports the theory that this ability/feature of the human mind might be universal....

Just tried it on my youngest girl, nearly 6, whose only done 3 terms of reception. She read it as fluently as if it was written properly, only stopping for a chuckle at the mess and was stumped by only the words she didn't know ...phaonmneal...aoccdrnig ... rscheearch ... Cmabrigde... Uinervtisy
She not only read it, she understood it and straight away at the end she pointed out that 'the' is spelled wrong in this phrase ...'but teh wrod as a wlohe'... it should still be the.
