Hi Guys, good morning to you all.
This is getting to be a frustrating situation when two Desktops open on the same page and then do different things.
Please let me explain.
I have two Desktops placed next to each other, I open both with the MyGov sign in page, all good so far.
I type in my user name and P/word on the first and all is well and the code is sent and it opens to where i want to be.
I do the same with the second machine as i sit next to the first, it to opens at the sign in part but this one already has my email and p/word in the boxes.
So I ask for the code, it is sent and i sign in , but then it tells me this "you've signed out of My Gov" and that is as far as we get, on that machine, everything else and ever other page i want opens fine it is just MyGov
Oh Yes Steve, a new start on each machine, it is just a bit weird, maybe it is something with the actual computer, I guess i will get there in the end, thanks for your response.
I did actually ring them a few days ago and when I eventually got some one to talk to I said "Hi" and before I had time to say anything else they hung up, so after waiting nearly one hour to be answered i too gave up too.

While this may be repeating the obvious, have you cleared your cache / cookies, etc.?
Oddly enough, I've had similar responses - call answered and then hung up on - from government based call centres. While I understand that it's frustrating, try calling very early, around 8.00am (or whenever they open the centre) so that you're one of the first in the line.
My other suggestion is to find a Government building related to whatever function(s) you're trying to undertake, tell them what you're trying to do, and when they try to say "Go to MyGov..." explain what brought you there.
One more point, and while it won't solve your immediate problem, it may be useful down the line. Get a diary, an old exercise book, whatever, and keep a running log of every attempt, phone call, e-mail, and the like, with dates and times. It won't solve the issue, but if you have to take the matter further, it shows that you've not only tried to resolve the issue, but have been doing so for a prolonged period.
There might be "Be connected" options available locally as well, an initiative started around the same time as NBN. There might be face to face courses available at the local library or you can take a set course online.
Be Connected is designed to help people get online, how to use digital devices etc.
Steve I have just had a quick look at that link, I reckon that could be very helpful not only with my issues but any other that may arise in the future, thank you.
404: page not found (by the server) - the link is broken
This is indeed what error 404 does mean however, in this case Leon, the link is clearly not broken as you can access it on another computer & many of us are having no issue.
This really does point towards an issue with your computer cache or, possibly modem cache.
I'm inclined towards the cache on the affected computers since I assume you are using the same modem/connection on the computer that works fine.
I know you do struggle with IT stuff Leon, you're not alone but, if you can get someone you know who is moderately IT competent they should be able to go through & completely clear out your cache & this 'should' fix your problem.
If you want to have another go yourself, in this case, I'm assuming you are using chrome..
Make sure you close all the open tabs in chrome (ie: web pages) then open one fresh tab & go into chrome's settings, history, clear browsing data & then click on advanced & make sure the following boxes are ticked:
- browsing history
- download history
- cookies and other site data
- cached images and data
Do not tick the password box unless you feel the need to clear out evey single one of your saved logins & passwords on chrome.
I've attached a screenshot of the final screen where you check the boxes & then hit the clear data button.
I had found that two PC's running Windows 10/11 and signed in with the same username will "share" login details across the platforms if it is left to default. If at some stage you had allowed the internet browser to save the username or username & password then it will be available and prefills on the other PC.
To see if this is the case this is generally found with Chrome under Settings>Auto-fill>Password Manager and in Edge under Settings>Profiles>Passwords (screenshots attached).
This *may* account for some of what is happening but YMMV.
It is a problem with the server. The browser does not, indeed cannot generate a 404. Most likely a dynamic link generated by the server.
Leon, your only real course of action at this point unfortunately is to get on the phone with them and have them sort it out.
Correct, the browser cannot generate this message but, it can appear when your browser cached this server response at an earlier point when the link may indeed have been broken.
Have had this occur multiple times with other websites & the reason I've known it was a 'cached' response was because I could access the same site from a different computer/device.
In Leon's case, he can access with one computer but, not the other.. this the 404 error in this particular case is highly unlikely to be a genuine, live server response, otherwise he'd have the problem on all his devices.
Hi Ken when i had a look on edge the way you described it the pages came up just as you have them here, there are about 11 saved passwords there and one is for my gov as well.
And on the first screen shot you sent it is on auto.
By the way I dont use Chrome, but only tried it as the other browsers did work, maybe it is a lenghty phone call

And how many times do you have to clear the cache for the cache to be cleared? I have been keeping up. Warren suggested it earlier and Leon said he had. It indeed could be something local, many things, but (and it a big but - I cannot lie) at this point given the limitations the most effective thing to do is suffer the help line.

Yep. What you could try is to go into the Settings and Password Manager of your browser(s) and delete the login username and password for myGov (and myGov only - not delete all passwords). Then, when you log in again it should provide you with blank login fields, and when prompted to save the login information again select “Never” so that it won’t save it and won’t ask again.
