NGC 6334 Cats Paw from July

Not much happening over the past few weeks in the way of AP with endless cloudy nights so found some data I hadn’t processed from Mid July
NGC 6334 Cats Paw Nebula
South Coast Obs
10” f5 Carbon Fibre Newt
ZWO2600MC
L Extreme filter
Flats
Bias
Only 2 hours of data ( 5 min subs )
Data was really noisy as I was imaging under a full moon only 30 degrees away and conditions were ordinary
Plus I had the Gain at 0 which opened the floodgates

Anyway massaged some sort of image out of the data set

Stacked in DSS
Processed in Startools Compose OSC SHO

Really needed 6 hours or more on this dim nebula

Nice work Martin, given the short integration and harsh conditions. Good colour and some nice detail lurking there that I’m sure you could draw out next time. Was this prior to your TS-optics CC? Not too bad, but bit of noticeable coma.

Yep a bit of coma in the corner , Im sure it was the Baader
The 10” sure makes your object so much bigger compared to the 6” and 8”
I only cropped the edges , so just squeezed the majority of the Cats Paw in frame

Yeh the detail is definitely there along with lots of noise
The next attempt will be without a big fat full moon nearby

This object is a real challenge for a OSC and even harder when a full
Moon is around
I’ll catch it again next year

If that's what you get from just "massaging" the data, then the mind boggles about what you could achieve if you went at it with a determined application!

Martin,

Looks very good to me, with plenty of detail to be spotted. The colour is (to my eyes) interesting - I would have thought it was more red than orange.

I can't wait to see what more data brings.

The mind boggles if I imaged with a 2600MM and 3nm Ha and 3nm Oiii Chroma narrowband filters !!!!!
OSC and multiband work Ok for what they are but Mono is king !!!
My next upgrade for 2023

This is a composite in OSC narrowband so you only get so much Ha and Oiii signal out those multiband filters due to the Bayer Matrix and the UV/ IR cut protective window in my 2600MC camera
In actual fact visual spectrum colours of Ha signal are in reality more Pinkish not Red, everyone attributes Ha to deep red which is not really correct

Most of us including me fiddle with colours in Narrowband HOO and SHO composites so you end up with some funky colours which are not really scientifically or astronomically correct
All the fun of it
Planning on going Mono next year ( 2600MM ) so I’ll be capturing so much more quality “signal” per sec than the 2600MC which is still an unbelievable camera.

Wow what a great photo absolutely beautiful

That’s a great cat’s paw Martin with a distinct narrowband look as well. Whilst there is a tiny, minuscule, tilt in the upper left it is hardly noticeable unless one goes pixel peeping. The 2600mc is performing well with your set up.

A tad noisy but still happy to snag the Cats Paw in 2022

Might be a bit of coma in that corner ?
For any one who is looking to upgrade from a DSLR to OSC or require a APS C sized sensor , the 2600MC is a winner , absolutely superb camera
