"The auction house expects the weapon, which comes with a signed photo of Ford, to sell for between $300,000 and $500,000"

A few years ago I was following an online auction for a piece of Apollo memorabilia. It was a US flag, printed on beta cloth, that had flown around the moon in the Apollo 8 command module and was signed by all 3 astronauts. It sold for $7500. I guess movie props are way more popular.

Give me Mercury/Gemini/Apollo memorabilia anytime and I am a huge Star Wars 1977 original (pre Lucas stuffing it up) cut fan. I saw an exhibition of Star Wars movie props at the Powerhouse Museum in the 90's .. lets just say if this "Blaster" is the same quality as these props (e.g.Luke Skywalkers Binoculars) it's not worth $30 let alone $300K.

Somebody's going to be sorely disappointed when they pay $300k, receive it, and they find it doesn't actually work.

I'm curious - care to elaborate on the condition? What did they look like? Were they poorly made to begin with, or had they deteriorated over time?

I have to agree. Even memorabilia from the Voyager missions. Much as I'm a fan, I'd much prefer a piece of history from something real.

On that note (and without meaning to derail the thread) I've just got the wife one of these as an extra for her birthday next month...

Years ago I worked with the chap that recovered a big chunk of skylab in WA (Rawlina) and when he had a few coin size tokens made from the piece. I got a piece off him and still have it. Its worth, to me, a memory as he was a friend. To anyone else ?? $20 maybe.
